Free spins explained

A free spin is a stake you do not pay. The winnings still have rules. Coin size, wagering base and cashout caps decide the value, not the spin count.

A free spin is a spin you do not pay for, on a game and at a coin size the coupon chooses. “Free” describes the stake of that spin. It does not describe the winnings. Winnings are often paid as bonus funds, and bonus funds often have to be wagered before they can be withdrawn. The count of spins is the least useful number on the coupon.

Value is count times coin size

Twenty-five spins at R1 a spin are R25 of stake. Twenty-five spins at 10 cents are R2.50 of stake. The coupons look similar if the casino only prints the count. Springbok’s October coupon is 25 spins on Seahorse Surge and does not print the coin size. White Lotus prints 125 spins on one October coupon and 40 on another, again without a coin size in the lines we read. Apollo prints 20, 50 or 125 spins on dated coupons, also without a coin size. Until the cashier shows the stake per spin, the rand value is unknown. A larger count is not automatically a larger offer.

Wagering on the winnings

Three patterns showed up in the coupons checked on 16 October 2026. Apollo’s Bubble Bubble 3 and Shadow Gods coupons wager 30 times the deposit, the bonus and the free-spin winnings. White Lotus’s Witchy Wins and Jacaranda coupons wager 40 times that same trio. Springbok’s 25-spin release does not print a multiple at all.

Including the free-spin winnings inside the base means a good result from the spins increases the amount you must wager. A R100 win from the spins, on a 30-times rule, adds R3,000 to the wagering requirement before any deposit or match is counted. That is why a long list of spins can be expensive to clear. The house edge applies to the wagering, as set out on the RTP and volatility page.

Caps, clocks, and excluded games

A maximum cashout cuts the result even after the wagering is cleared. Springbok’s R250 chip, which is cash rather than spins, caps withdrawal at R500. Silversands’ R400 chip caps it at twice the bonus. A free-spin coupon can carry a similar cap in the cashier even when the public line we read did not print one. If you cannot see the cap, you do not know the offer.

Dates are part of the offer. Jacaranda Bloom Bonanza ends on 19 October 2026. Shadow Gods ends on 30 October 2026. Witchy Wins and Bubble Bubble 3 end on 31 October 2026. Springbok’s 25 spins are described as valid throughout October 2026. A coupon past its date is not a coupon. The free-spin offers page lists these with the casinos that publish them.

How to read a coupon in one pass

  • Which game, and whether you can change it.
  • The coin size, or an admission that the page does not state it.
  • The wagering base: bonus only, or deposit plus bonus plus spin winnings.
  • The multiple, the cashout cap, and the expiry.
  • Games that do not count, or count at half.
  • Whether the coupon must be entered before the deposit. White Lotus says deposit coupons must be entered in the cashier first.
  • Whether it can be combined with a welcome match. Silversands says the R400 chip cannot be combined with another of its promotions. Apollo does not say the R400 chip stacks with the three-coupon welcome.

None of these coupons removes the house edge. They change the amount of money at stake and the conditions on withdrawing what comes back.
